IoT Innovation and Enablement for a Category Leader

S.C. Johnson's R&D teams approached Everest to co-create a new connected experience for some of their most established devices. Their goal was to create a new way to engage with customers beyond the point of purchase

Designing a connected experience for a broad customer base.

Considering the breadth of SCJ’s customer segments, it was critical to create an experience that carefully guided non-technical users, while allowing flexibility and exploration for a more technical user segment.

Everest’s design team rapidly iterated through various prototypes that balanced the tension of user control and freedom. The end result is an experience guided by a careful onboarding that re-uses familiar control patterns that mimic the physical interaction of the device.

Their goal was to create a new way to engage with customers beyond the point of purchase, an entirely new territory for the business.

Building a Proof-of-Concept to advance innovation initiatives.

Production cycles can last multiple years in a CPG environment, which isn’t conducive for the iteration and testing required to refine a market-leading user experience. Everest helped SCJ create a pilot program for their new connected experience leveraging a Swift application that powers prototype devices.

Utilizing a niche segment of their existing customer base that exhibits high-interest in a digital experience, Everest crafted an in-home user testing program for SCJ to gather real-world usage data and feedback.
